About One Book, One Bakersfield...One Kern

One Book One Bakersfield…One Kern is a community organization guided by a dedicated steering committee composed of individuals and organizations who believe passionately that the themes and ideas contained in great books can change lives. A community sharing the reading of one book’s exciting ideas, and discussing its themes together is given the power to enrich its life and to build bridges of understanding between strangers and friends.

One Book One Bakersfield…One Kern is funded entirely through donations and grants from community organizations, business, and individuals. The program operates through a non-profit foundation. Portions of the program requiring underwriting include funding author visits, film screenings, purchase of multiple copies of the book made available for check-out from the Kern County Library’s branch libraries, on-air publicity, and printing costs for program brochure and discussion guides.
